Sandy & Alvin

We have an over-abundance of squirrels on Huntington Drive. But never fear----Wonder Dog is here. Sandy stations himself every day at the front window or the back window so he can scope out the yards and alert us of trespassers on HIS street. He will start whining and going back and forth from the door to the window, keeping an eye on the critter outside.

We have managed the art of quietly opening the doors to let him
out to sneak up---no forget that---to let him out to chase the squirrels. This little guy in the top picture climbed up one of our trees last Saturday morning and he was hanging on for dear life. He even stayed there while I went inside to get my camera. It drove Sandy nuts, having that squirrel up in his tree. The second picture shows him barking at Alvin up in his tree! There were actually 2 squirrels in our backyard that morning and another 2 out front.

We don't want him to ever catch one of them. But these guys need to speed up some. Sandy has gotten dangerously close to some of them! Sandy is always so proud of himself after the chase.

Oh, the Golden Retriever blood. Kowboy is very funny in that way. As long as he thinks we aren't looking, every critter, dog, cat and bird in the neighborhood can have full run of the yard. As soon as we go outside or he sees us looking through the window, the game is on. Nothing is safe in the backyard. He runs, barks, chases and generally terrorizes nature.

The only time this didn't hold true was the one time we had a SKUNK in the backyard. Kowboy got really, really excited about that. In fact, so excited that I finally had to go out there and see what the problem was. Once I knew what the problem was, I had to lay on top of Kowboy so the skunk would leave the yard. Thank goodness he didn't get sprayed. I don't know how. That skunk must have been running on empty!
